XGS-PON stands for 10 Gigabit Symmetrical Passive Optical Network. It is an updated fiber-based transmission standard capable of delivering 10 Gbps downstream and 10 Gbps upstream to the last mile. XGS stands for ten (X), Gigabit (G), and Symmetrical (S).
Current GPON technology maxes out at 2.4 Gbps download and 1.2 Gbps upload. XGS-PON delivers over 4x downstream and 8x upstream bandwidth compared to GPON. This means better performance for 4K/8K streaming, cloud gaming, and handling multiple devices simultaneously.
Yes. GPON ONUs do not support XGS technology. An XGS-compatible WiFi 6 ONU (ZTE ZXHN F8648P) is required. The upgrade cost is Rs. 5,000 + VAT with a refundable device deposit of Rs. 5,000.
Most current devices are 1 Gbps compatible. For the 1/1 Gbps plan, you likely won’t need other upgrades. For 2 Gbps, check that your LAN ports support above 1 Gbps (or get a USB 3.1 to 2.5 Gbps adapter), and ensure your router/switches support multi-gig throughput. We strongly recommend testing 2 Gbps over a wired connection, not WiFi.
It is only necessary if you require speeds of 1 Gbps or above. For most standard home users, existing GPON plans remain a great choice. XGS Extreme is ideal for power users, gamers, remote workers, and households with many simultaneous high-bandwidth demands.
