How To Use ViaSecure

1. Basic List Tab:

The “Basic List” consists of the list of filtering options available.

There are 4 options presented by the user:

  • Kids Safe
  • Malware Protect
  • Homework/Family Time
  • Custom Selection

In this screen, users can click on the “ [Insert Image of arrow]” arrow in front of each filter option to know more about that particular filter. Or tap on the switch “[Insert image of switch]” to turn the Filter on.

Note: Multiple filter options can be turned on simultaneously.

2. Kids Safe:

This filter option helps safeguard your kids from inappropriate websites online. The categories of website block in this filter are:

  • Adult Content
  • Sex Education
  • Advertisement
  • Weapons & Violence
  • Hacking Sites
  • Addictions

Please note that News & Media, Social Media and Gaming is not blocked in this filter option. Only categories which are explicitly inappropriate to children are blocked. Children may still be subjected to inappropriate content through categories mentioned earlier which are not blocked, hence we advise parents to not allow children to use Social Media until the rightful age or allow social media usage for limited time only by blocking the category at times when not in use.

Once this option is turned on, the categories will be blocked all the time until and unless the authorized user turns it off.

3. Malware Protect:

This filter option helps protect you from Viruses, Malware and other online security problems by blocking sites which are known to be a threat.

The following category is activated in this filter option:

  • Antivirus

Once this option is turned on, the categories will be blocked all the time until and unless the authorized user turns it off.

Please note: Viasecure blocks website with known threats at a best effort basis and does not guarantee that all 100% of malicious websites will be blocked.

4. Homework/Family Time:

This filter option helps you block all distractive content. Not only does it block inappropriate site for your kids but also blocks Social Media, Games and Humor category of sites. Which means there will be no Facebook, Instagram, Youtube or PubG during this time.

This filter option can be enabled for part-time only. Hence, before turning this feature on, you must enter the start and end time of this filter.

The categories of website block in this filter are:

  • Adult Content
  • Social Media
  • Sex Education
  • Advertisement
  • Weapons & Violence
  • Hacking Sites
  • Games and Humor
  • Addictions

5. Custom Selection:

This filter option helps user make their own custom filter.

You may choose from the 17 filter categories to activate.

You may also click on the “Enable Part Time” option if you want to activate the custom option in a specific time frame only. If “Enable Part Time” option is not selected the categories will be blocked all the time until and unless the authorized user turns it off.

Note: “Block OPEN DNS” available in the Custom Selection option allows you to block users in your network from browsing the Internet through DNS other than Vianet’s default DNS.

6. White List Tab:

Adding website domains in your Whitelist allows you to bypass Viasecure filter restrictions for the websites.

For example, if you have blocked the Social Media category using Viasecure, but add “facebook.com” in your Whitelist; all Social Media sites will be blocked but Facebook will work.

Note: Once a website domain is entered, all sub-domains are automatically allowed.

For Example: If user Whitelists youtube.com, all sub-domains are automatically allowed: youtube.com/vianetnepal, youtube.com/trending etc.

7. Black List Tab:

Adding website domains in your Blacklist restricts the specific sites listed.

This is useful when you want to block a specific site rather than the whole domain.

For example, if you want to block Youtube but still want to browse Facebook. Then rather than blocking Social Media category which will block both, you can just add Youtube.com to the Blacklist. This way only Youtube.com will be blocked and you can still browse other Social Media sites.

Note: Once a website domain is entered, all sub-domains are automatically blocked.

For Example: If user blocks youtube.com, all sub-domains are automatically blocked: youtube.com/vianetnepal, youtube.com/trending etc.
